All units provide generous living spaces, kitchens equipped with all major appliances, and individually controlled heat and air conditioning. All are single floor living with the exception of basements in some units.
Glen Ridge was built with a vision and a purpose for better living. Unlike other retirement communities, Glen Ridge combines a respect for nature, the land, and a deep concern for people. Mansfield Cooperative, a non-profit corporation, was initially formed to meet the needs of older residents in Mansfield, but is open to applications by the general public. It is a not-for-profit corporation which owns land and buildings and is controlled by the shareholders who also are its resident members.
Glen Ridge is composed of fourteen buildings that are either triplexes or quadplexes, that are set in un-intrusive clusters for a feeling of privacy as well as beautiful views. They are varied in size and layout. Some have basements, either finished or unfinished and/or walkout, all have either a deck or patio, or both. Most units have two bedrooms and all have at least one or two bathrooms. Each has an assigned unattached one-car garage.
Glen Ridge is unusual in that residents are part of a self-governing co-operative. They own shares of stock in Glen Ridge Corporation and together they decide its rules through an elected Executive Board. The Executive Board’s monthly meetings are open and residents bring concerns to those meetings. Other ad hoc committees vital to Glen Ridge are Finance, Building and Grounds, Hospitality, and Rules & Regulations.
Glen Ridge operates according to its legal Declaration and by-laws that establishes rights and responsibilities of its members, owners, and the Association. Financial oversight is provided by the Finance Committee with day-to-day operations handled by the Glen Ridge administrator.
